Over the last 25 years, more than a billion people have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty.

The development of these societies will demand more energy and materials such as aluminium, so that more people can get access to a safer and better lifestyle.

So, the world needs to work on several fronts:

Take recycling, we need to increase that and at the same time make sure that any new materials are ethically sourced and produced with as low emissions as possible.

We need to make a shift in the world’s energy system ongoing from fossil to renewable.

This shift together with electrification and digitalization are changing the energy landscape dramatically.

For Hydro, this means we have to increase the use of recycled aluminium already in circulation. We need to build businesses and supply chains that ensures that we keep the reusable resources in the loop.

We need to invest in industries that pollute less. We believe in doing so we can support increased demand for goods and at the same time cut emissions.

Increased urbanization. Focus on sustainability and shift to electrification. These are the megatrends that we work to meet in Hydro.
